QULLQI 792

space-based installation

permanent marker on silk, wooden frame
150 x 150 x 250 cm

Ard Art Institution, Cairo
2025

QULLQI 792 reflects in a coded way the impressions of the three-month residency in Egypt. The central element of each drawing is a spiral-shaped square containing a poem encoded in Braille. The arrangement of text in the form of a geometric pattern is inspired by traditional Kufic script.

Due to the defined grid, each poem has exactly 792 characters and is elaborated with the help of artificial intelligence. In turn, digital processes are transformed into an analogue and ornamental form in a long handwriting process. The term “qullqi” is a neologism that emerged in the course of a multi-level abbreviation of words.

Through the various stages of translation between digital and analogue, the work reflects the interweaving of traditional and contemporary structures and alludes to a global transitional phase.
