Periscope, Salzburg 2021
PLAN D is an accessible installation representing the exhibition space on a scale of 1:2. From the centre, 8 colour-coded panels are arranged spirally in a geometric construction of profiles. Each layer, in the digitally common format 9:16, represents periscope‘s exhibition programme since its online presence from 2014-2021, using a symbol system and encoded in UTF-8 (binary code).
The site-specific work investigates the phenomenon of a fragmentary identity in virtual space and translates the archive of online accessible data into a manually executed, coded calendrical in three-dimensional shape. By alienating the functionality of data processing operations, the work examines the extent to which the formation of a digital identity constitutes a veritable and objective process and where the limits of individual controllability lie.
